An extremely extensive and archivally documented documentation has been preserved for the ring, with all documents in color copies from the Archives in Berlin, with the exception of the RuSHA folder. The file includes the SS-RuSHA file (11 pages) as well as the SSO personal file (163 pages), NSDAP personnel records (2 pages), a separate folder Personenbezogene Unterlagen der NSDAP of 63 pages and an extensive file of Personenbezogene Unterlagen der Reichskulturkammer (RKK) of 177 pages.
The provenance is further complemented by two period photographs of the ring bearer in SA uniform and a preserved original postcard in civilian clothes with a handwritten signature from 1924.
The holder of the ring, Otto Wilhelm Lange, was a long-time, high-ranking member of the SA, Allgemeine-SS and Ordnungspolizei, with an extremely varied and well-documented career spanning from World War I, through the cultural and political structures of the Third Reich, to senior SS staff positions during World War II. It was also possible to find information about his activities after the end of the Second World War.
Originally educated in the humanities, the intellectual studied law, oriental studies and languages (Persian, Arabic, English, French), worked as a dramaturg, theater director and cultural functionary. In the 1920s, he was one of the prominent figures of the German theater and opera scene in Berlin. From the beginning of the 1930s, he was an active member of the NSDAP, SA and SS, where he held leading cultural, press and organizational positions at the level of brigade and group staffs.
He served continuously in the SS from 1938, among others with SS-Hauptamt, SS-Personalhauptamt and later with SS-Abschnitt XXXIX and 108. SS-Standarte. He attained the rank of SS-Sturmbannführer (equivalent to senior staff officer). His service was considered long-term and meritorious, as evidenced not only by promotions but also by awards.
A completely exceptional element of his career is the fact that, by personal decision of Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, in 1943 he was allocated extensive property in the occupied territory, namely approx. 200 hectares of land in the Kokořín (Kokorschin) area, with a view to later transfer to personal ownership. This assignment is evidenced by the official document "Einweisungsbescheid", signed by H. Himmler, in his capacity as Reich Commissioner for the consolidation of the German nation. Kokořín Castle, which was part of this complex, was also associated with the property.
The ring has an original contemporary photograph – a self-signed postcard of Otto Wilhelm Lange, dated 1924.

SS-Totenkopfring comes with Martin Toman´s COA.
